Roger Varian is one of the most respected and successful trainers in British racing, known for his calm professionalism and outstanding strike rate at the highest levels of the sport. With over 1,200 career winners to date—including multiple Group 1 victories – Roger has firmly established himself as a leading name in both domestic and international racing.

Operating from the state-of-the-art Carlburg Stables in Newmarket, Roger consistently produces high-quality winners across all distances and age groups. Since taking over the licence from the late Michael Jarvis in 2011, he has maintained and elevated the yard’s legacy, combining modern training methods with a deep understanding of his horses.

Roger’s career is highlighted by victories in some of the sport’s most prestigious races, including the St Leger, Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, and Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère, among others. His ability to nurture young talent and handle top-class horses with patience and precision has earned him a stellar reputation throughout the racing world.

In further proof of his stellar record of training winners at the highest level, Roger has trained a total of three Classic winners – Kingston Hill (2014) and Eldar Eldarov (2022) have both won the St Leger at Doncaster, while he also won the 2024 renewal of the 1,000 Guineas with Elmalka.
