Magic Runner Fifth At Wolverhampton – Race Report

Following a strong performance earlier this month, Magic Runner ran another creditable race at Wolverhampton , finishing a luckless fifth over a distance of one mile, one and a half furlongs on Monday 22nd September.

Sent off at 9/1 against eight rivals, Magic Runner again broke very well from the less than ideal stall eight and settled on the outside in a share of third. Magic Runner travelled comfortably through the contest but was slightly outpaced as the race intensified from what was a very steady gallop. Magic Runner was forced very wide round the home turn and was hampered entering the final furlong , disrupting her momentum and ending any chance of placing. Once beaten, she kept on to finish fifth.

After the race, jockey James Sullivan gave us his verdict on the performance:

“She hasn’t run too badly, they went very slow down the back. It didn’t suit her the speed they went and then getting fired out into the middle of the track away from everybody just took me out of the race a bit. Things didn’t go right but if there was no pace again I wouldn’t be afraid to go on and make the running. I think she just needs that good solid pace. If I was riding her again I would have made up my mind down the back and just let her go, but we’ll know for next time.”

Trainer Ruth Carr reported the following morning :

“Magic Runner has eaten up and trotted up fine this morning, so all is well. It didn’t pan out for us quite as well as it did for us the time before and it was probably a better race. She certainly wasn’t disgraced and we’ll look for something for her in the next couple of weeks.”

Things didn’t work out for Magic Runner on Monday but she ran very respectably and with a little more luck she will be challenging for top spot again soon. We look forward to seeing her back on course in the near future!
