A Path To Ronda ran an admirable race to finish second in less than ideal conditions on the 17th November.
Ronda was sent off as 11/10 second favourite, with the market indicating a likely two-horse contest. With the entire field reluctant to go forward, Gavin Sheehan took the initiative and made the running on our mare in a race where four hurdles were omitted due to low sun. Ronda never looked entirely comfortable in front, having a good look around and losing focus, and she didn’t jump with her usual fluency. In the straight she was ultimately picked off by the Skelton team’s favourite, Supreme Malinas, who won by four lengths in receipt of a crucial 7lb from our runner.
After the race, jockey Gavin Sheehan gave us his verdict on the performance:
“The one thing I was going to rely on was jumping and she didn’t jump great in front today. She’s obviously better with a lead, she was doing too much looking around really and didn’t focus enough on her jumping. We got done for a bit of toe after a bit of a mistake three out but she’s run a massive race giving seven pounds away.”
Trainer Jamie Snowden reported after the race:
“It obviously wasn’t ideal with those hurdles out, it wasn’t ideal making the running and it wasn’t ideal giving a nice horse a penalty! She has run very well for second, and we’ve got another run into her and some prize money.”
This race didn’t unfold as we had hoped for A Path To Ronda. We’re confident she’ll deliver another big performance next time. We look forward to seeing her back on the racecourse.
