Magic Runner Unable To Feature In Competitive Lingfield Contest — Race Report

From a difficult draw, Magic Runner was unable to get involved in the finish in the amateur jockeys’ handicap on Friday 27th.

Magic Runner faced eleven rivals and was sent off at 28/1 in a fiercely competitive contest. Unfortunately, she was drawn widest of all but broke well under Charli Parker. With no opportunity to slot in, she was forced to race three wide for much of the contest, tracking the pace towards the front. She moved up to challenge for the lead in what developed into a strongly run race, but turning into the straight as the tempo lifted, the early exertions of racing wide took their toll and she faded to finish tenth.

After the race, jockey Charli Parker gave us his verdict on the performance:

She broke really nicely but no one seemed to want to go forward so we did. We couldn’t get in so had to race wide and she galloped to the line but got tired.”

Trainer Ruth Carr reported the following morning :

“Magic Runner is fine this morning, things didn’t work out how we wanted but that’s not a surprise from a wide draw. She is probably ready for a rest now.”

This was a tough assignment for Magic Runner in a competitive amateur jockeys’ race from a difficult draw. She has enjoyed a very successful winter and now heads for a well-earned break before returning to action on the turf.
