Dunstan put in an excellent performance in his long-awaited return to the all-weather on Friday 20th December, finishing fourth and giving us plenty to be excited about for the future.
Having been off for 138 days and gelded during his break, Dunstan was sent off as a 12/1 shot for his return to action and didn’t help his chances early on, breaking slowly out of the stalls. Jockey Eddie Greatrex got him into a rhythm towards the rear of the field, where he sat throughout the first mile of the race. His jockey pushed the button for him to make some headway with around two furlongs to go, and he did just that, picking off plenty of his rivals. Unfortunately, he appeared to run out of energy and failed to catch the front three, finishing a length behind third-placed Destinado.
After the race, jockey Eddie Greatrex gave us his summary:
“I was delighted with his performance. I got him into the position I wanted to be in during the early stages of the race, and he’s travelled beautifully throughout the race. He just got a bit tired during the final stages, which suggests he should come on for the run.”
Trainer Paul Attwater reported the following morning:
“I’m pleased to report he ate up his breakfast and is perfectly well in himself this morning. That was a superb performance off such a high mark, when you consider his turf mark is 8lbs lower. I’m really looking forward to seeing him back in action again.”
With that run hopefully blowing the cobwebs away, we can’t wait to watch Dunstan progress in 2025 – fingers crossed he can go on another winning run like he did when landing an incredible four-timer earlier this year!
