Pigeon Forge made a pleasing start to life over obstacles on Saturday 7th March.
In a competitive maiden hurdle, she was sent off at 22/1. Pigeon Forge settled well under Liam Harrison, racing in midfield and jumping very nicely for a hurdling debutant. She travelled smoothly until two hurdles from home, where the pace lifted and she became slightly outpaced. She kept on well all the way to the line to finish a very respectable fifth of twelve and appeared to enjoy her first experience over jumps on the racecourse. She should improve for the outing and looks capable of providing us with some very enjoyable days on the track.
After the race, jockey Liam Harrison gave us his verdict on the performance:
“She has come to the racecourse and had a lovely experience against some higher rated horses. She will be very competitive when she is just against mares. A little bit further on drying ground will help her.”
Trainer Emma Lavelle reported the following day:
“Pigeon Forge is home safe and sound. Really pleased with her after the race, we know she will want further but it was a lovely day out for her, she jumped beautifully, galloped through the race really well and I think we will have a lot of fun with this mare.”
This was a very pleasing hurdles debut in a competitive race. She looks sure to improve for the experience and is certainly a mare we can have plenty of fun with. Her owners once again enjoyed a fantastic day at Hereford and can look forward to many more.
