Brosay put in an electric performance on his first race in four months to win at Southwell on Saturday 28th December, providing his trainer with his first winner in the process.
Trainer Paul Attwater decided to drop Brosay down in grade and fit him with cheekpieces for his race since joining the Newlands yard, and it proved to be an excellent decision. Sent off as an 11/1 outsider for the race, Brosay dwelt as he left the stalls and due to this was towards the rear in the early stages of the race. However, when jockey Eddie Greatrex asked him for his effort, he duly obliged and made rapid headway to eventually lead in the final furlong. Despite hanging right, he stayed on strongly to hold off the late challenge from Winchurch to win by half a length.
After the race, jockey Eddie Greatrex gave us his summary:
“That was a great performance. He was a bit slow jumping out of the stalls, but he got into a good rhythm and once I asked him for his effort, he picked up nicely. He did hang both ways during the race, but despite that, he won nicely and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go in again next time out.”
Trainer Paul Attwater reported the following morning:
“I’m pleased to report that Brosay is in good form this morning after travelling back from Southwell last night. He ate up his supper and has trotted out sound, and the win seems to have done him the world of good – he’s bouncing! I was delighted with his performance, and that’s exactly what he deserved – he’s been working well at home and we were confident he’d go close. It was a fantastic feeling to see him win and I’m glad to be off the mark now too!”
With a second win from just seven races, we can’t wait to see what 2025 has in store for Brosay and fingers crossed he’ll be back in the winners’ enclosure again soon!
