Handlethekettle put in a fantastic performance to run out an impressive winner at Taunton on Tuesday 23rd April, making all to run out a comfortable winner on his first start of 2025.
With the betting suggesting he would have his work cut out against the odds-on favourite Jackpot Des Bordes, jockey Gavin Sheehan got Handlethekettle into an early lead in an attempt to make all the running, and he duly obliged. ‘Hank’ jumped beautifully throughout the race, and despite a couple of his rivals trying to put him under pressure in the final stages, none of his rivals could get close enough to him to mount a serious challenge. He eventually ran out a six-length winner over Jackpot Des Bordes, with the other two runners well behind.
After the race, jockey Gavin Sheehan gave us his verdict on the performance:
“He was nice and straightforward throughout the race – as soon as we jumped off he pricked his ears and was clearly enjoying himself. He jumped great the whole race and they tried to put a bit of pressure on me jumping the last down the back, but he had a bit more than they did. He picked up nicely in the straight and it was a great performance – the perfect start to the year for him!”
Trainer Jamie Snowden reported the following day:
“I’m absolutely thrilled to bits with him! I thought he travelled through the race really nicely and jumped brilliantly, it certainly felt like a more polished performance than we saw in his win at Worcester earlier in the season. He can only improve from here going forward and I look forward to seeing him over a fence this summer.”
This was another fantastic performance from Handlethekettle and the future certainly looks exciting for him – roll on the summer!
