Highly Encouraging Debut From Lucky Luna At Salisbury – Race Report

Having been frustrated by injury setbacks, Lucky Luna proved she was well worth the wait with an impressive effort at Salisbury on Saturday 23rd May, a performance that suggested she has the ability to win plenty of races.

Our filly broke from the inside stall 12 and was forced to tuck in towards the rear. She settled well and travelled notably strongly throughout, with Joe Leavy getting her into a lovely rhythm. The eventual winner, the even-money favourite Golden Brown, enjoyed the run of the race from a prominent position and was able to get first run on the field. Lucky Luna was one of the last runners off the bridle and finished her race strongly from the rear in what looked a contest that favoured those ridden handily. Staying on very encouragingly to finish fourth, beaten just two and three-quarter lengths, she showed a huge amount of promise for the future.

After the race, jockey Joe Leavy gave us his verdict on the performance:

“She broke a little slowly and it was very messy in front of us early on. It felt like the race could have gotten away from us. She gave me a really nice feel and galloped through the line really strongly. She should come on lots for the run and she can get another furlong in time. She should be very competitive and going close in similar events. She moved great and felt great.”

Trainer Richard Hannon reported after the race:

“I am delighted with her. If she was drawn better she would have gone extremely close. That was a huge step forward. I don’t think these horses will beat her again She is a very nice filly and we have lots of good days to look forward to”.

It was fantastic to see Lucky Luna on the racecourse, showing herself to be a talented filly capable of providing plenty of exciting days and winning moments for her owners. We are very much looking forward to her next appearance.
