Legendary Luke A Strong Second On Rules Debut At Worcester – Race Report

Following Wendigo’s impressive chase debut, Legendary Luke produced a fine performance to finish second. He competed in the third race on Worcester’s Wednesday card, the National Hunt Flat Race for Conditional and Amateur Jockeys, under the excellent Isabelle Ryder.

Legendary Luke showed a fantastic attitude on his first appearance for Racing Club and Jamie Snowden. He was very relaxed in the preliminaries and looked an absolute picture in the parade ring. Isabelle took the lead on Luke, and the pair set good fractions. He settled beautifully out in front, ears pricked, clearly enjoying his first racecourse experience. Luke led the field into the home turn and faced a challenge about two furlongs from home. The winner, Saint Jeannais, quickened smartly and went on to score comfortably, but Luke galloped on admirably to the line to finish a highly promising second.

After the race, jockey Isabelle Ryder gave us her verdict on the performance:

“Absolutely delighted with Legendary Luke , he has run really well for his first go after his point. We’ve had to set our own fractions in front as no one else really wanted to go on. We got into a lovely rhythm and he was pretty relaxed out in front. He really feels like a proper stayer that would get a longer trip when he goes jumping. He quickened up turning in and picked up nicely. The winner looks very smart. Delighted with Luke, a good start.”

Trainer Jamie Snowden reported following the race:

“He travelled away beautifully in front with his ears pricked, in his own rhythm. Izzy has given him a lovely ride, yes the winner has done us for speed but we know stamina is his strength. He’s going to be better with a jump in front of him. A really nice start.”

This was a highly encouraging start for Legendary Luke and a notably professional performance for a debutant. We’re hugely excited about his future over hurdles and, in time, over fences, and we look forward to seeing him back on the racecourse soon.
