On just his second hurdles start, Wendigo put in a hugely impressive performance to run out an easy winner at Ludlow Racecourse on Thursday.
Having disputed the lead through the early stages, Wendigo jumped well throughout and led from the fifth hurdle. After travelling strongly throughout the race, he started to increase the tempo and by three out he had the other runners struggling to keep up with him. After pulling clear from the two main market rivals, Jockey Gavin Sheehan nudged him out in the run-in to finish five lengths clear of the runner-up Lightningupourdays, in what was a convincing victory that bodes well for his future.
Trainer Jamie Snowden was full of praise for Wendigo after the race, reporting:
“His jumping was brilliant and he put that race to bed easily in the end. That was a valuable race and he’ll step forward from that, and I’d love to target the Grade 1 Challow Novices’ Hurdle at Newbury in December with him now. He’s certainly got a bit of class about him.”
After a dominant performance on just his second start over hurdles, and with Jamie Snowden talking about potential Grade 1 races for him, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for our jumps star!
