The Racing Club Bloodstock Collection offers members the opportunity to experience thoroughbred ownership from its very beginning. Carefully selected broodmares, elite stallion matings and complete transparency combine to create a unique ownership experience, allowing members to follow their horse from conception through to the racecourse.
The second opportunity within the collection is Havana Flower a beautifully bred young broodmare carrying her first foal by one of Europe’s most exciting new stallions Diego Velazquez.
Havana Flower
Havana Flower is a daughter of the outstanding young sire Havana Grey, out of Fleur De Cactus, a daughter of the legendary Montjeu.
Purchased for £60,000 as a yearling, Havana Flower possesses an exceptionally commercial pedigree combining speed, precocity and Classic stamina.
She is the ninth foal from Fleur De Cactus and is a half-sister to six individual winners, including Pivone, who achieved an official rating of 114, and Oursin, rated 94, demonstrating the consistency and depth of the family.
Trained by Roger Varian, Havana Flower showed ability as a two-year-old, achieving an official rating of 71 before her racing career was unfortunately curtailed by injury. While her time on the racecourse was brief, she possesses all the qualities breeders seek in a young broodmare, with an outstanding pedigree and considerable residual value.
Her sire Havana Grey has rapidly established himself as one of Europe’s leading young stallions. A brilliant sprinter himself, he won six races including the Group 1 Flying Five Stakes, Group 2 Sapphire Stakes and Group 3 Molecomb Stakes before retiring to Whitsbury Manor Stud.
Since entering stud, Havana Grey’s influence has grown at an extraordinary rate. His progeny include unbeaten Group 1 winner Vandeek, alongside numerous Group and Listed performers, firmly establishing him as one of the most commercially sought-after stallions in Britain.
Through her dam, Havana Flower also carries the invaluable influence of Montjeu, one of the greatest Classic sires of the modern era whose descendants include Derby winners, Oaks winners and countless elite performers around the world.
In Foal To Diego Velazquez
Havana Flower was covered on 1st May by Diego Velazquez, one of the most exciting new stallions to retire to stud in Europe.
A son of the incomparable Frankel, Diego Velazquez was trained throughout his career by Aidan O’Brien and demonstrated exceptional talent from two through to four years of age.
His racing career culminated with victory in the Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marois, one of Europe’s most prestigious mile races, having also been Group-winning and Classic placed during his career. Combining elite race performance with an exceptional pedigree, he retired to the National Stud for the 2026 breeding season with an opening fee of £17,500.
His first season proved hugely popular with breeders, covering over 100 mares, reflecting the confidence the industry has in his long-term potential as a stallion.
For breeders, ownership of a member of a stallion’s first crop represents one of the most exciting stages of the breeding cycle. Should Diego Velazquez fulfil the expectations placed upon him, his earliest progeny are likely to become highly desirable both commercially and on the racecourse.
Why This Mating?
The Havana Flower × Diego Velazquez mating combines two exceptional modern bloodlines.
Havana Flower contributes the explosive speed and precocity of Havana Grey together with the Classic stamina and toughness inherited through Montjeu.
Diego Velazquez brings the elite Frankel sire line, Group 1-winning race performance and one of the finest pedigrees available to breeders today.
The resulting foal offers an outstanding balance of speed, class and stamina — precisely the qualities sought by owners, trainers and commercial breeders alike.
As one of the very first foals by Diego Velazquez, this youngster will begin life with genuine pedigree appeal and the opportunity to develop into a valuable racing and breeding prospect.
