Wendigo made a superb start to his career in bumpers last season, finishing runner-up on rules debut, before winning his other two bumpers, including one at Catterick under a penalty. This season, he made a promising hurdles debut at Hexham, before going one better to win impressively in a £30,000 race at Ludlow. A possible tilt at the Challow Novices’ Hurdle at Newbury in December could be on the horizon next for our jumps star!
Trained by multiple Cheltenham Festival-winning trainer Jamie Snowden, Wendigo holds the accolade for being the first RC Syndicate winner, with his bumper win at Hexham back in November 2023. Having followed up to win under a penalty at Catterick, Wendigo has returned this season with a highly promising runner-up effort on hurdles debut at Hexham, in a race that saw the front two pull 17 lengths clear of the other runners.
Trainer Jamie Snowden is confident he will improve for going over hurdles, so we’re excited to see how he fares in his Novice Hurdle campaign in the 24/25 season. Having already won a point-to-point in his career, the evidence is there to support Jamie’s theory, and we’re eagerly awaiting him making his hurdles debut in the Autumn. We’re hopeful that Wendigo will eventually prove to be a Cheltenham Festival horse, and we’re dreaming big with his future.
Wendigo has an impressive pedigree, with his sire Great Pretender producing multiple Grade 1 winners, including the likes of Greaneteen and Benie Des Dieux. He is a gorgeous 16”2 horse, who looks to have the makings of a top-class individual.
We’re confident Wendigo has the potential to be a Graded horse in the future, and he’s sure to give us plenty of fun along the way!
