Three of our microshare horses were in action recently, with Brodie’s Boy lining up at Chepstow on Friday 24th July, while Lucky Luna and Denby’s Dream both ran on Monday 27th July at Southwell and Windsor respectively.
Brodie’s Boy broke well from stall 8 under George Wood and travelled well into the race. As the pace lifted two furlongs from home, he couldn’t match the leaders’ turn of foot and finished seventh of nine.
Drawn in stall 6 under Sean Levey, who partnered her to her impressive Salisbury success, Lucky Luna broke a little slowly and was forced to settle towards the rear of the 12-runner field. Turning into the straight as the tempo increased, she found herself caught behind a couple of rivals just as she was beginning to make her challenge. Sean was forced to switch her towards the centre of the track to find daylight, but the delay allowed several rivals to steal a decisive advantage. Despite having little chance of featuring in the finish from that point, she stayed on well to finish sixth and, with a clearer run, may well have finished in the places.
Denby’s Dream raced in midfield under Rossa Ryan, but was too keen and struggled to handle Windsor’s turns. She remained in contention until a furlong from home, but may have felt the effects of racing inefficiently and tired late to finish sixth of the eight runners.

Trainer Tony Carroll – “The horse looked very well before the race. George thought he handled the ground but I thought he found it too quick and struggled on the undulating track. It was below par and he was expected to finish in the first three.”
Jockey Sean Levey – “She got away with seven furlongs last time because we dictated and the ground was slow, but she wasn’t fast enough for it today. I would step her up to a mile, and even a mile and a quarter. I think she is well handicapped and she’ll keep improving. She is in a good place and will win again, and potentially win a few, as she has plenty of scope as a lightly raced filly who is improving all the time.”
Jockey Rossa Ryan – “It’s not the result we wanted. She just wasn’t able to come around the bend as we would have liked. She has a nice knee action and probably needs a bit of slower ground. A mile on soft ground in the autumn is probably ideal. It’s worth hanging on for some softer ground, and I think we’ll see an improved filly who will have no problem winning off this mark. On softer ground, she would have had no issue quickening past horses, which she couldn’t do today.”
