Richard Hannon is one of the most highly regarded trainers in horse racing, having won numerous Group 1 races, including Classic victories. Based at the state-of-the-art Herridge Racing Stables in Wiltshire, Richard has some of the best facilities in the country, allowing him to train over 200 horses at the highest level.
Richard comes from a dynasty of racehorse trainers. His grandfather Harry was a trainer, whilst his father, Richard Hannon Sr., was a multiple-time Champion Trainer and one of the most successful trainers in British racing history. Having spent time learning the trade at some of the top racing stables in Australia, Richard returned to England to be assistant trainer for his father, holding that position for 12 years before taking over the reins from his father. Since taking over the yard in 2014, Richard has continued the family legacy, training top-class winners on both the domestic and international stages.
Richard’s career started in spectacular fashion when he won the 2,000 Guineas with Night of Thunder – that year he also won the British Flat Racing Champion Trainer in his very first season as a trainer. Since then, he has added further Classic success with Billesdon Brook in the 1,000 Guineas and has trained numerous stars, including Champion Miler King of Change, multiple Group 1 winner Mojo Star, and top two-year-olds such as Canford Cliffs and Threat.
In the 2024 season, Richard trained 87 winners, including the likes of Haatem, Shouldvebeenaring and Persica. The biggest star of the season was undoubtedly Rosallion, who finished runner-up in the 2,000 Guineas, before winning both the Irish 2,000 Guineas and the St James’s Palace Stakes.
We’re delighted to have Richard Hannon as one of our trainers and look forward to plenty of great days out at the racecourse and at stable visits with our owners!
