Bosh Soldier showed some encouraging signs on April 14th but couldn’t sustain it to the line, while Denby’s Dream finished an eye-catching second.
Bosh Soldier was sent off at 66/1 in a competitive twelve runner race and broke very well from stall nine under Jack Doughty. She led the field and travelled nicely until the turn for home around three furlongs out. She was headed at the top of the straight and unfortunately faded to finish tenth. Denby’s Dream was held up at the rear and raced a little keenly under Tom Greatrex. She had to be patient and wait for room in the straight but finished very strongly when in the clear and finished a good second.
After the race, jockeys Jack Doughty and Tom Greatrex gave us their verdicts:
Jack Doughty – “Plan A didn’t really work out today. We jumped out the best we could to try and get a nice position from the wide draw. We went forward and she travelled around nicely but as the winner came up next to us she just stayed on at the same speed. She wants to have a few in front of her and hopefully she will be better on the grass.”
Tom Greatrex – “I have had to pick my gaps up the straight, but she has been very game and genuine. She stayed the mile really well and she will be winning before too long.”
Trainers Tony Carroll and Charlie Pike reported following the race :
Tony Carroll – “It wasn’t the plan to make the running, she raced a bit too keenly and it didn’t suit her. It was disappointing as she is better than that.”
Charlie Pike – “I am over the moon with Denby’s Dream. She had to come through a wall of horses and showed guts and determination. I think we have bumped into a well-handicapped winner who got first run on everything. I am really proud of her and she’s making great progress. We’ll look to find something on the turf for her.”
Bosh Soldier continues to show some promise, and a return to the turf may see her in a better light. Denby’s Dream is progressing well, and this latest effort suggests a win is just around the corner.
