Racing Club Insider Tips – Saturday 4th July

There are eight meetings across Britain and Ireland today, but it looks a difficult day for punters. I’ve struggled to identify any standout selections. The feature race is the Group 1 Coral Eclipse at Sandown, where Gethin faces a stiff task conceding weight to French Derby winner Constitution River and runner-up Hawk Mountain on quick ground, while I’d be happy to leave the several competitive races on the undercard alone.

13:30 Newmarket – MIGHTY MAGNUS (8/1 Generally Each Way)

Several of these arrive in good form, which should make for a cracking sprint, but MIGHTY MAGNUS is the one that catches my eye. Michael Dods’ Dark Angel colt won nicely at Musselburgh two starts ago, quickening clear inside the final furlong to score with a bit in hand by a length and a quarter from a rival who had been running well in a higher grade. He then ran with plenty of credit when fifth in Class 2 company at York and, dropping back into a Class 4 here, looks capable of going well at a generous price.

19:48 Bellewstown – JISCO DU BREM (6/1 Generally Each Way)

There are a few with chances in this, but at the prices JISCO DU BREM makes plenty of each-way appeal. Jonathon Sweeney’s seven-year-old stayed on strongly to score over a slightly shorter trip at Ballinrobe at the end of May on good ground under this rider. The form has worked out well, with the well-beaten third winning since, while the favourite, who finished fourth, had been in good form beforehand. A 7lb rise looks manageable and he should give another good account.

At a bigger price of around 16/1, TOLKA ROW also merits each-way support. He appreciated the step up in trip when finishing a solid second in a Tramore maiden last time and remains open to further improvement over this distance now handicapping.
