Recent Results Round-Up

It has been a busy few weeks on the track for Racing Club, with plenty of reasons for optimism. Pigeon Forge’s strong staying success at Uttoxeter and Lucky Luna’s highly encouraging debut at Salisbury have been recent highlights, while Lord d’Or also ran with great credit when finishing second in a high quality novice at York. You can read the full race reports for these performances on our news page. Elsewhere, several other Racing Club runners have also been in action, and we assess their performances below.

Following two encouraging second placed finishes, Denby’s Dream was unable to continue that good form at Kempton on the 20th May. She was a little slow away and raced too keenly through much of the contest. After hanging left around the bend, she weakened in the straight and ultimately finished twelfth. It certainly wasn’t a true reflection of her ability, and we are happy to draw a line through the performance and look forward to her next outing. She has upcoming entries at Bath and Ffos Las, where we hope to see her bounce back to the level she had shown in her previous starts.

It was a similar story for Unknown Journey, who returned from a minor setback at Brighton on the 29th May. Racing too keenly, he weakened inside the final furlong to finish eleventh. The run is best overlooked, however, as it was not a true reflection of his ability and suggests he may have an underlying issue.

Lucky Luna made her second career start at Chester on the 30th May. Breaking well from stall three, she settled nicely just behind the leaders. She may not have been ideally suited by the unique nature of the track and also met some interference in the straight. Despite becoming slightly outpaced, she kept on to finish sixth. The performance was another encouraging one and she looks likely to be seen to even better effect on a more conventional track. She remains a filly with plenty of promise and a good level of ability.

Following an injury setback and making his second start since undergoing a wind operation, Brodie’s Boy was unable to make an impact at Windsor on the 1st June. Held up towards the rear, he made headway to challenge down the centre of the track but appeared to be outpaced on ground that may have been quicker than ideal, eventually finishing eighth.

Jockey/Trainer Comments:

“Jockey Tom Greatrex described Denby’s Dream as racing very keenly and hanging off the bend. Once her chance was gone he looked after her up the straight. Trainer Charlie Pike suggested it was a very disappointing run and she wasn’t herself.”

“Jockey William Carson was pleased with the position Unknown Journey was in and how he travelled into the race. However, he was disappointed with how he finished.Trainer Tony Carroll was very disappointed with the run. Having finished tamely, he will have Unknown Journey checked over and scoped to determine if there are any issues.”

“Jockey Joe Leavy was pleased with Lucky Luna and thought she ran well despite feeling outpaced and showing inexperience. He suggests she is certainly a nice filly who will continue improving and will pick up some nice races.”

“Jockey William Carson was happy with Brodie’s Boy and believed they were in a good position to challenge, having travelled nicely into the race. However, on ground that seemed too quick and having not run since March, he felt he was tired and couldn’t pick up to finish off his race as well as usual. Trainer Tony Carroll liked the way he moved into the race and is optimistic that with some rain to ease the ground conditions, we can see Brodie’s Boy being competitive on the turf.”
