Magic Runner is a well-bred filly who represents a family steeped in both quality and consistency, blending top-class international performers with durability and proven black-type success. She has shown consistent promise on the track and is expected to progress further as she matures, benefiting from Ruth Carr’s expert guidance at Mowbray House, where her individual character will be carefully understood and nurtured, with plenty of time spent turned out in the paddocks. Having previously been in training with Racing Club trainer Andrew Balding, who actually recommended that she would be a great addition to our team of horses.
Her sire, Sea The Moon, was a brilliant winner of the German Derby and has quickly established himself as a leading influence at stud. Renowned for producing progressive middle-distance performers with scope and substance, his progeny include Group 1 winners such as Alpine Star and Fantastic Moon, as well as a host of tough and talented stakes horses. From him, Magic Runner inherits scope, stamina, and a turn of foot.
Magic Runner’s dam, Magma, is a daughter of Dubai Destination out of Mahamuni. Though unraced herself, Magma has proven her worth as a broodmare, producing multiple winners, including Master of Wine, a Group 3-winning performer in Australia with top-level form, and Master The Stars, a dual winner in Britain and Ireland. Magic Runner is the latest representative of this highly reliable production line.
The second dam, Mahamuni, was a winner in France and a full sister to the high-class pair Saffron Walden (Irish 2000 Guineas winner) and Insight (EP Taylor Stakes, Gr.1). This is a family rich in black-type success, with performers such as Matchwinner, Moon a Lisa, and Pensiero d’Amore all contributing to its depth and versatility across Europe and beyond.
Magic Runner has progressed steadily since her debut in autumn 2024, gaining experience in novice and maiden company before finishing a close second at Wolverhampton in December. Stepping into handicaps this year, she has run consistently on turf and all-weather. Recent runs at Windsor and Ffos Las suggest she is learning with each start, and with her pedigree and the patient guidance of Ruth Carr, she looks poised to build on her solid foundation and develop further as her career unfolds. As she matures, she should prove competitive in middle-distance handicaps.
“Magic Runner has settled in well since she joined us. She’s enjoying being turned out with a gang of fillies and her training is good. Her form suggests from her current mark of 60 she’ll be a filly to have fun with in the coming months!” Trainer Ruth Carr
